This is not a home tour like that, it is more of a look inside a woman’s crazy house. Also note that the furniture inside is not original. They told us that photos were not allowed due to the new movie that came out, who copyrighted the inside of the building. On a side note, they do not allow photos inside, which is a new rule, so instead they sell a souvenir photo. I understand that they have bills and taxes to pay because it is a privately owned business, but if they lowered the attendance per tour to 15 people, it would be way more enjoyable for everyone and they would still be making over $18K a day (just on tours, not on food and souvenirs) and might get more positive reviews and feedback. At $39 per person, 25 per tour, 4 tours per hour, 8 hours a day, they make almost $30K a day. On the way back to the car my husband and I did the math. They smiled and thanked us for the feedback. After the tour I did speak to two managers regarding the issue we had. It was the saving grace of the experience, and why I gave a three star review rather then a one or two start review. The perfect number! The guide waited for everyone to gather into the space before starting to tell us information. The Explore More tour had 13 people on it. Of course there is a gift shop with subpar merchandise. The Explore More tour started over an hour after the basic tour ended, which seemed as if it was a long time to simply wait around. I am not sure if the guide went over these details or not because we couldn’t hear him half the time. I told my husband what I remembered from the tour from 20 years ago. The rooms are very small and half the time we had to stand in the hallways leading up to the rooms. My husband and I missed half the information he was saying because we were stuck in the back of the group. The tour guide did not wait for guests to catch up before starting to tell his stories. I wish I could say that we received a tour worth that price, but we did not. I booked the tour online with the Explore More bonus tour, for the grand total of $49 per person. I always told friends visiting this part of California to go. 20 years ago I visited the Winchester Mystery House with a group of friends.
